It all began with a simple act of kindness…

Stef Hammitt, a California native and former commercial and music video stylist, started Hammitt Collection in 2003 after being inspired by a college friend who asked her for financial backing for his leather belt line. Instead of simply donating the money, Stef took a more hands-on approach and drove her friend to his leather and hardware suppliers to purchase the goods. Her creative wheels instantly started turning.  

A tomboy at heart, her distinct style is clean, modern and relaxed. Her first handbag was created from the fact that she rarely carried a bag herself. One afternoon while heading to a barbeque, Stef noticed her strapless dress lacked a place to stash her stuff. What’s a girl to do? She quickly whipped together a clutch made out of leather and snaps. The bag was an instant hit and, well, the rest is history.

Today, Stef lives and thrives in Manhattan Beach, California. When she’s not dreaming of new designs, she can be found doing just about anything outdoors, from hiking and biking to playing beach volleyball.
